After a lot of thought, I have decided to start a used bike parts and accessories business. I may include some new stuff as well that I am able to purchase at a lower price but for now I will start with the used inventory that I already have. I am a little bit behind on getting everything rolling. This week my plan is to actually start posting products for sale.
I will also be including other outdoor gear in my business. By not limiting it to just bike stuff I should be able to hit a larger market. This is an interesting project for sure. While it is an easy business to start it may become challenging as I have to replenish my inventory and still manage to sell it at a profit. Finding used inventory can be a challenge. This definitely seems like a good time to do it though. I have been developing a youtube channel dedicated to the outdoors especially bike touring and bike packing. While there was a bit of a slump in the winter lately views have really started to pick up. This is partly because my channel is in a state of growth in its young age but it think this is very indicative that the bike buying season is already starting.
I think that starting a business is always a scary endeavor, you really have to put yourself out there, not just financially but personally. Your reputation is at stake. While I think it is important to just go for it sometimes it is also important that you do it as well as possible from the start. That first impression in the market place can really last in the minds of your customers.

Breaking out of My Shell
I have always been a pretty shy person. I get nervous making phone calls, sometimes even if I know the person and I never find it very easy to just walk up to a stranger and introduce myself. Even around friends I don't say very much. That wouldn't seem to work very well with my dream to start a large scale outdoor business and make outdoor/ cycling related films. Even in an online business you must promote yourself, hire employees and make critical decisions. It's as they always say though, where there's a will there's a way! This journal will be here to document my journey as I try to break out of my shell and find some success.
I am in a class right now that challenges you to start a business, make $100 profit and then liquidate it at the end of the semester.. I'm still struggling to figure out exactly what I want to do for that. I actually have access to an old screen printer, maybe I'll make a bunch of cool outdoor lifestyle T-shirts and sell those.
Wild Outdoor Living has been doing amazing though. I wouldn't quite go so far as to call it a business but the channel is about to hit 100 subs and it already has 32,000 views which just blows my mind. I do monetize the videos and I am hoping that eventually the channel can make enough money to support the big adventures that I go on, which in turn should allow me to go on even more adventures. If I could get it to that point I would be through the roof.
Alright as always until next week guys,
Catch ya later!
